Alturas Preparatory Academy

A new brand for a new charter school in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Alturas Preparatory Academy is the newest charter school in Idaho Falls, covering grades 6-12. A new academic logo and brand were needed for the new school.

Rebranding education.

Respectable and timeless branding for a new International Baccalaureate school in Idaho Falls.

MOOD BOARDS

The physical school is built into a vacant portion of the local shopping mall and would house grades 6-10. The physical school is broken into two halves: one for the high school-aged kids and one for the middle school-aged kids. Each half has its own color palette. However, for the branding we wanted to stick to only one.

DIGITAL SKETCHES

Below you’ll see the 4 original logo concepts that we provided to the branding committee for Alturas.

We kept all of the designs very academic in nature since the school wasn’t going to pursue sports programs.

REVISIONS

“With logo design, it is never love at first sight.” - Sagi Haviv

Sometimes when presented with the logo concepts, it just feels like something is missing. In our presentation meeting, I ended up showing my concept file where I designed the original concepts and iterated on them.

Inside that file was an “A” concept that I didn’t choose. Michelle Ball, the admin, fell in love with that symbol. She loved the swooping crossbar that symbolized growth and potential. So, we combined that “A” with option 2 and we were off to the races!

Mockups help the client visualize their options in the wild.

After some more refinement of the color palette, we kept moving forward.

What was the verdict?

After much deliberation and consultation, we arrived here. I am so proud and happy with the work Son of Erik Design did for Alturas Preparatory Academy.

We landed on a very unique purple and blue color palette. This took time, patience, and finesse.

We wanted the design and color palette to be unique to the Idaho Falls, ID area. The other high schools in the area already had green and gold, red and black, orange and black, and baby blue and white taken.

Michelle and the others were very happy that we were able to develop a unique offering.
